Medication Policy
Parents are responsible for the administration of medicines to their children. In cases where children require medication during school time, parents are asked to consult with the headteacher; this is because, as a general rule, the school does not accept responsibility for the administration of medicines as there are serious implications for staff and other pupils.
However, it is usually possible to arrange for medicines to be given by the parent, carer or a friend, or for the child to return home during the midday break.
In other cases, e.g. asthma or eczema, the inhaler or cream is stored centrally in the school, children are able to use them under supervision and a record is kept. Parents are required to provide the school with information regarding treatment and to inform the administrative officer of any changes.
