Bullying Procedures

As the first school in the Borough to establish a set of procedures to attempt to combat the effects of bullying, we are constantly reviewing and revising these procedures.

Any child who is the victim of bullying will place their name and class in one of the boxes provided in school. Nominated members of staff empty these boxes every day and will arrange to talk to the child and discover the names of the other children involved.

A meeting is arranged for these children and suggestions of ways of improving the situation will be discussed.

Experience has shown that a number of these allegations of bullying have been caused by children who were not aware of the pain they inflict. Because of this, we inform only the victim's parents that the matter is being dealt with. The other children mentioned have a week in which to modify their behaviour. Usually this is all that is required. However, if there is a continuation of the problem after one week, the parents will be informed and a repeat of the action may result in the parents being called for a formal meeting where sanctions may be discussed.

The only deviation from these procedures occurs when there is an incident of racial abuse. The parents of both the victim and the perpetrator will be informed immediately.
